![]() The disclosure that Vanessa and Scarlett are sisters is handled brilliantly, beginning with the shared vision of the red door and the creature seemingly behind the reveal. It’s understandable that both women raise their guards against the other, but before Vanessa can make clear that Axel’s with her, Scarlett stabs him with her long blade. Scarlett Harker (Missy Peregrym) admits that she’s been following Vanessa for quite awhile, and once she learns that Vanessa can actually return vampires to the human state, she acknowledges an awareness of Dmitri’s interest in the woman who can bring down his plan for a new world order. The female warrior who’s been lurking in the shadows the past few weeks finally reveals herself, but not before she and Vanessa go toe to toe in a tightly choreographed duel in the hallway, each going through her personal cache of weapons during the struggle. Now though she may have someone more able to understand her conflicted feelings. Or is she still reeling from the effect her bite had on Dylan and simply fears history might repeat itself? Either way, he warns her that opening the red door may not lead to the answers she seeks and tells her, “It’s not what you think.”Īt this point Vanessa knows she’s different, and we can only imagine the stories she’s concocted in her head to explain what it is she’s become. Nonetheless, he follows her to the Farm, perhaps still following orders to protect “the woman on the table.” Does he hope she’ll change her mind or does he plan to simply bite her? Surely Vanessa doesn’t still hold it against him that he kept from her that fact that he read her military file. Having watched Axel struggle valiantly this season, it’s especially difficult to reconcile her stance particularly since she offers no convincing explanation for her refusal. Nevertheless, it’s Vanessa’s refusal to return Axel to a human state that is most puzzling. At times, her brusque manner as she pushes aside those who care about her and only want to help can be a bit unsettling, but Julius is rapidly learning when to step in and when to give her space. And while her single-minded drive often works to her advantage, Vanessa has been known to embark on a mission without a thoughtfully conceived plan. ![]() With visions of a red door looming overhead and red balloons off in the distance, it’s Susan’s appearance in her dream that finally sends Vanessa back to where her journey began: the Farm. ![]() “Veritas Vincit” seamlessly introduces a dynamic character with the potential to completely alter the landscape in the human race’s battle for survival, but as always, things may not be quite as they seem. What is true, however, is that Van Helsing once again manages to shock its audience as the mystery of Vanessa’s origin story ratchets up more than a few notches. Whether or not truth prevails depends on whose truth one believes. This Van Helsing review contains spoilers.

Stage 3 select remove ghosts closeup of the HDR with a hero first frame selectedĬloseup of the HDR with a hero third frame selected 32bit HDR with neutral mid point exposure shown A frame showing just two of the different bracketed exposures and the different people at waters edge in each See this example from a set of HDRs we shot in San Francisco on a Canon 5D. In a sense the lower LDR patch will be stretched in bit depth, this may not be a problem but it mathematically should be removed with 32 bit paint tools prior to export to an HDR format such as OpenEXR etc. However if you are aiming to use the 32bit file for some other VFX purpose – the “LDR Patch” should be removed as it will not be correctly graded when you access the HDR at different exposures. In your sole aim is to produce a nice tone mapped lower bit depth image then you will notice almost no difference and the results are likely to be highly satisfying. Of course there is no higher or lower dynamic range information for that unique part of the frame so the program is effectively putting a LDR (low Dynamic Range) patch in to the HDR. In the case that they are still visible in the hero frame this image of them will appear fully and unfaded in the final 32 bit HDR. In CS5 that person would be removed from all frames except the hero frame. For example if five bracketed shots are combined, then a person moving may show up as a 1/5th ghosted element (see below). This will look for erroneous data between the frames and remove it as part of the merging. In the new CS5 – multiple exposures are still bracketed together but you have the option of selecting a hero frame if anti-ghosting is turned on. Typically this could be someone walking or moving from one exposure to the next. Ghosting occurs when multiple bracketed images are combined and there has been something that has moved between shots. The HDR functions have been improved by the addition of a Ghost removal option and a simpler GUI. ![]() JDI stands for “Just Do It” – minor improvements, that individually are not major, but collectively add up to an improved user experience and a less stressful working day. Several studies have focused on the use of inertial measurement units (IMUs) to detect heel slips occurring on a straight and level path, neglecting toe slips that occur at toe off. Existing Automated Slip Detection MethodsĪ number of methods for detecting slips have been described in the literature. The addition of an automated slip detection system would make the MAA test more objective and accurate.ġ.2. We also suspect that MAA test observers disproportionally identify larger slips because these are easier to see. These observers likely introduce variability in the results based on differences in vigilance and/or skill. However, there is one major limitation to this test method, which is that it relies on the subjective assessment of a human observer to determine when a participant has experienced a slip. These findings are driving greater interest in the MAA test. The MAA test has also been used to evaluate how quickly these advanced composite materials lose their slip resistance performance, highlighting a potential limitation of this technology. A field study with 110 home healthcare workers found that the group wearing footwear that performed well on the MAA test reported nearly 80% fewer falls compared to a matched group wearing their own footwear. These advance materials have also been shown to perform better than conventional footwear in real-world conditions. In fact, our findings have shown that slip resistance varies widely among commercially available winter footwear and that a new generation of slip resistant winter footwear that incorporates composite materials performs much better than most other footwear available on the market. Our testing has shown that the MAA test is able to identify differences in slip resistance performance that the SATRA test is unable to find. The slip resistance of the footwear is defined by the maximum slope angle (measured in degrees) that the participant can walk up and down without slipping. Recently, our team at the KITE Research Institute (Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network) developed the human-centered Maximum Achievable Angle (MAA) test, which involves participants walking up and down ice-covered inclines while wearing test footwear in a simulated winter environment. Ecological validity for a test refers to whether the test results are representative of performance in real-life settings. Unfortunately, this test has been found to have poor ecological validity likely because it is unable to simulate the complex dynamics of human walking. This method measures the coefficient of friction by applying a specified normal force pressing the test footwear onto a test surface and then moving the test surface horizontally at a set constant speed using the SATRA STM 603 Slip Resistance Testing machine. The current industry standard for measuring footwear slip resistance is a mechanical test developed by the SATRA Technology Centre and is recognized by ASTM International. However, assessing the slip resistance on icy surfaces remains challenging. Slip-resistant footwear can prevent falls on icy surfaces. In addition, the algorithm was able to accurately classify backward toe slips, forward toe slips, backward heel slips, and forward heel slips with F 1 scores of 97.3%, 54.5%, 80.9%, and 86.5%, respectively. Our algorithm was able to detect slips with an overall F 1 score of 90.1%. A total of approximately 11,000 steps from 9 healthy participants were collected, which included approximately 4700 slips. The two classifiers were trained, optimized, and validated to classify toe slips and heel slips, respectively. Our algorithm segmented these data into steps and extracted features as inputs to two linear support vector machine classifiers. ![]() Kinematic data were collected from nine healthy young adults walking up and down on ice surfaces in a range from 0° to 12° using an optical motion capture system. The objective of this study was to develop and evaluate an automated slip detection algorithm for walking on level and inclined ice surfaces to be used with the MAA test to replace the need for human observers. However, the MAA test requires the use of a human observer to detect slips, which increases the variability of the test. Winter footwear slip resistance can be measured by the Maximum Achievable Angle (MAA) test, which measures the steepest ice-covered incline that participants can walk up and down without experiencing a slip. Slip-resistant footwear can prevent fall-related injuries on icy surfaces. ![]() If an error appears that says "Third Party Application Not Found," just click OK.Ħ. The Commission supports the CCUS Project Network (2018-2023), which facilitates knowledge sharing among major industrial projects underway across Europe. The result of both studies are expected by summer 2023 Moreover, the Commission ordered a study to analyse the possible future regulatory environment for CO 2 transport infrastructure in the EU covering issues such as third-party access to transport and storage, tariffs or network development plans. The Commission is currently working on a study on the optimal approach to deploy a EU-wide CO 2 infrastructure. This list includes 6 CO 2 trans-European infrastructure projects focusing on the development of CO 2 hubs. In November 2021, the Commission published the 5th list of Projects of Common Interest from the Trans-European Energy Network regulation. By 2021, the CEF energy co-financed studies and works for PCI on CO 2 amounting to EUR 143.9 million. In November 2021, 4 out of the 7 awarded projects of the first call for large-scale projects under the Innovation Fund featured components of the carbon capture and utilisation value chain. The Commission actively supports carbon capture and storage and carbon and utilisation projects. Both these technologies can capture carbon and store it permanently in geological formations. It will boost innovative industrial carbon removal technologies, such as bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) or direct air carbon capture and storage (DACCS). The European Commission adopted a proposal (COM/2022/672) for an EU-wide voluntary framework to certify carbon removals on 30 November 2022. The communication also proposes the way forward to certify carbon removals. It lists key actions to support industrial capture, use and storage of CO 2, including the assessment of cross-border CO 2 infrastructure deployment needs at EU, regional and national levels until 2030 and beyond. In December 2021, the Commission adopted a Communication on Sustainable Carbon Cycles (COM/2021/800) that aims to establish sustainable and climate-resilient carbon cycles. The Commission provides a regulatory framework for the safe transport and storage of CO 2 through Directive 2009/31/EC on the geological storage of carbon dioxide.
